Last night of the 2023 Beekeeping Course

The final night of the Beekeeping Course is Tuesday May 9th so please make an extra effort to attend in person and meet your fellow beekeepers.

The topic is Swarm Control Methods, something we all need to be able to deal with.

Attending the Beekeeping Course in person is a thousand times better than watching on Zoom.  Come along on Tuesday evenings and try it out for yourself.  You’ll be glad you did.  There is tea and coffee for you all and Paula always brings along lots of biscuits !!!

Raffle for a Commercial Hive

Raffle for Commercial Hive with Bees in aid of the Capuchin Day Centre.

Tickets are €10 and available from May 9th. Go to ‘Members Area’ and select ‘Shop’.
The Capuchin centre is located on Bow Street, Dublin 7. Set up in 1969 to help the homeless, it provides meals and personal services to this “Down and Out group”.
Today the homeless includes families living in hotels with no facilities to cook, or room for children to play. The Centre is also providing services to many who are not homeless, but because of increases in the cost of living or changes in their personal circumstances, are having difficulty putting food on their table.  It is now a national service, and many people from our own county of Kildare are currently benefiting from this service.

The centre provides up to 300 breakfasts and up to 750 dinners daily with 1,400 food parcels a week, costing €4 million a year.  But only €400k is provided by the state with the rest coming from donations. The Centre currently has  200+ families on it’s books.
A list of services provided in the Capuchin Centre can be seen on their website “capuchindaycentre.ie”
If you can afford it please increase your odds by buying extra tickets.
Thank you, Brigid Monaghan, NKBKA Committee

Tree planting by NKBKA for Arbor Day 2023

Arbor Day, translates to ‘tree’ day from the Latin origin of the word arbor.   During National Tree Week each year, NKBKA plants trees in a local school and for 2023, two trees were planted in Blessington Community College in a horticultural area under development by Transition Year students.  In the picture above we have two Normans, two Johns and one Pat.   So who do you think dug the hole and who neatly tied the tree to the stake?

The NKBKA Annual Honey show took place in the DARA Cinema, Naas on Tuesday night...
